Publisher's Description:

WinCatalog Light - WinCatalog Light is an easy to use yet powerful disk catalog software that can be used for cataloging disks and files. Using WinCatalog Light you can quickly find a needed file in your disk collection, even without inserting any removable disks into the drives. Our CD cataloger keeps the record of all files and folders stored on a disk and then uses this data to help find the needed files. WinCatalog Light supports various disk formats: CD, DVD, diskettes, hard drives, ZIP and jazz disks, removable and network drives, Memory Stick cards and any other storage devices, that can be accessed as drives in MS Windows environment. For better data representation WinCatalog Light scans Zip-archives contents and adds archives to the catalog, extracts mp3, html file descriptions when scanning a disk, and retrieves Audio CD track names from Internet. WinCatalog's main asset is the ability to access any disk's table of contents even if the disk is inaccessible at the moment. You can view the list of files and folders, examine their properties and descriptions, search files by various criteria. You can increase the search relevancy by associating with each file (folder, diska€¦) a set of keywords and a description that characterizes this item. WinCatalog features a built-in list of contacts. Use it to monitor whom of your friends or acquaintances you have given a certain disk. The lent disks are marked with a special icon.

Try WinCatalog Light - it is completely FREE!

Haven't had time to do much more than "kick the tires", but the product seems to do a pretty good job in short order. Cataloging was quicker than I'd expected, and searches are also snappy. There is one problem with filenames/folders that include non-standard characters. I mark a lot of folders with a leading Alt-251 character (√) to indicate they've been dealt with. WCL translates that character into a lowercase 'V', lists the folder name, but doesn't catalog the contents. This deficiency will keep me looking for another solution.

Great software

I have been using your utility to search my backup disks for some video files I have lost. I really like the way it works and I hope to get all of my backup disks cataloged in the near future. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

Looks Promising

I haven't had much time to evaluate the software, but if it lives up to expectations, it will be a great tool for finding information on my backup cds.

Thanks for your software.

Elaine

Happy to find wincat (again?)

In 2002 I registered for Wincat/Pro nr 17356-12636 written by Mart Heubel from Heerlen Nederland. Are you that same organisation? C. Koster

WinCatalog Light 2.3

WinCatalog Light is a great product in all. The volume scanning is quite fast and simple to do. The collection items, i.e. the volume names can be renamed. The GUI is very easy to understand. The only think that could be improved is the ability to open several collections without closing the others. In this case you could switch between the collections in a fast and simple way.

Great software!

We should be able to put some filters in the search.
Example: Search folders

It should be possible to export the lists we create to Excel, or to another file to make it easy to print and view.
It should have an option to generate a file showing us the volumes and files in each volume.
For instance: I made a list with all my MP3 cds. I should be able to print a view showing me the folders on each CD.

Author's Response:
All your suggestions (except first one) are already implemented in WinCatalog Standard, the "big brother" of WinCatalog Light. You can read more about WinCatalog Standard at http://www.wincatalog.com/standard.html

The catalogue

I think this is a fantastic programme - especially if you have, as I do, hundreds of programme disks. My only complaint - and this could be as a result of the number of disks I have catalogued - is that it takes so damn long to load! But, once it is up and running, it's a great programme.

The tasks I use are, of course, to find progs on my disks. I often - at least once a month - re-format my c: drive and then have to reload those programmes that I need. Without Win Catalogue this would take days - now it is merely a case of searching for it in the WC file and hey presto - all the disks containing the programme(s) I am looking for are listed.
